The Georgia Historical Society's library and archives, a major research center for Georgia history, houses one of the most outstanding collections of manuscripts, books, maps, photographs, architectural drawings, portraits, and artifacts related to the history of Georgia.
The mission of the Georgia Historical Society is to collect, preserve, and share the history of the State of Georgia. Among the most significant ways in which the Society fulfills this mission is by collecting, receiving, and preserving letters, documents, photographs, art work, books, records, artifacts, and memorabilia pertaining to the purposes of this Society; maintaining an archives building for the better preservation of its collection; and by creating and maintaining an historical library for the use of its members and others of the general public under such rules and regulations for use of the collection.
